• Season resumes at Canadian GP – After a five-week pause caused by the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix due to the war in Iran, the 2026 season returns this weekend (May 22–24) at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for Round 5.
• Mercedes rookies lead the charge – Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli tops the World Drivers' Championship with 100 points following his Miami GP victory, holding a 20-point lead over teammate George Russell (80 pts). Ferrari's Charles Leclerc sits third (59 pts) after just four races.
• Verstappen's Nürburgring DQ – Max Verstappen took time off from F1 duties to race in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, piloting a Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Verstappen Racing. He delivered spectacular overtaking moves to take the lead early on, but his team was ultimately disqualified due to a behind-the-scenes procedural error.
• New Spanish GP venue tested – Carlos Sainz completed the first laps around the new "Madring" circuit, which is set to host the Spanish Grand Prix later this season. The FIA has also confirmed updated homologated development upgrade procedures for the 2026 power unit regulations as manufacturers continue to adapt.
